Online psychotherapy
Is Online CBT Effective?
Research suggests that structured, therapist-supported online psychological treatments can be useful for a range of difficulties. Online delivery alone, however, is not a quality guarantee. Assessment, therapist competence, privacy, treatment structure, and fit remain essential.
Evidence
Outcomes depend on more than the screen
Research on guided internet treatment and online CBT has found beneficial outcomes across anxiety and depressive presentations. Some studies report results comparable with face-to-face treatment when the intervention is structured and professionally supported.
Studies range from self-help modules to live video psychotherapy, so findings about one format should not automatically be generalized to every online service.
Advantages
Access and continuity
Online work reduces geographic and travel barriers. It can be particularly practical for people elsewhere in Armenia, international residents, or Armenians living abroad.
Joining from home can feel easier for some and less private for others. Convenience and clinical suitability are different questions.
- Reliable connection and suitable device
- A private space
- Clear local emergency options
- Transparent privacy and data-processing rules
Suitability
When online work may be insufficient
Acute crisis, immediate safety risk, severe disorientation, some medical or psychiatric conditions, and lack of private or reliable access may require local or more intensive support.
A responsible initial assessment includes deciding whether online work is appropriate and discussing referral when it is not.
Quality markers
Questions to ask before starting
Ask about training, approach, confidentiality limits, fees, cancellation, emergencies, and data storage. A trustworthy service describes limitations as clearly as benefits.
Technology is a delivery method, not a treatment in itself. The work should remain structured, collaborative, and professionally accountable.

Discuss your specific situation
Educational information can clarify a model, but an individual formulation requires context, goals, history, and a suitability assessment.
